Municipalities and higher territorial units may acquire state land free of charge

Municipalities and higher territorial units have long pointed to problems in connection with the settlement of state-owned land. This made it difficult for local governments to reconstruct buildings and the problem of unsettled ownership relations also made it difficult to draw on EU funds, which were often the only source of funds for municipalities and higher territorial units. The solution is offered by an amendment to the law, which simplifies the gratuitous transfer of land. However, only the application practice will show whether the legal regulation will be sufficient.

The amendment brings clearer rules

A building in the public interest means a building of transport infrastructure and technical infrastructure, a building intended for facilities in the field of education and training, social services, health care and public administration, or a building intended for production, protection of cultural heritage, historical heritage, natural heritage and protection and creation of the landscape, and a building intended for the development or protection of the territory of the state, region, municipality or zone as defined in the spatial planning documentation.
