The calculation of electricity charges will change from July

The calculation of electricity charges will change from July

Based on the pricing decisions of the Slovak Electricity Regulatory Authority, the method of calculating electricity distribution fees will change from July 1, 2025.

Households that have an electricity production source or a battery system and an intelligent metering system (IMS) installed at their point of consumption will be included exclusively in the two-tariff distribution rates D3, D4 or D5 for eastern and western Slovakia, or in the distribution rates D5 to D9 for central Slovakia, from July 1, 2025. If such household points of consumption are located in one of the so-called single-phase rates, for which a fixed monthly fee is paid, they will be automatically transferred to one of the two-tariff distribution rates.

The amount of tariff payments for electricity for all of the above-mentioned two-tariff distribution rates, to which affected household customers will be transferred from the second half of the calendar year, is set on the same principle. In these rates, the monthly component of the fee for the point of consumption will depend on the ampere value of the main circuit breaker in front of the electricity meter. As a result, this will mean an increase in monthly electricity-related fees for many households.

“We are talking about the so-called capacity payment. In this case, the higher the circuit breaker, the higher the fixed monthly fee. It does not matter the electricity consumption, but the maximum potential consumption that you could use. The aim of these measures is to determine more accurately the consumption of households and the targeting of distribution costs. On the other hand, this change may discourage other households from investing in their own green solutions,” explains Barbora Balunová, an expert in energy law and regulation from the law firm L/R/P advokati, s.r.o.
